Henry FULLER 3 4
- Born: 2 Feb 1713/14 or 2 Feb 1715/16, Baltimore County, Maryland 3 5 6 7
- Marriage (1): Elizabeth on 27 Aug 1738 in Baltimore County, Maryland 1 2
- Marriage (2): Catherine Anna SALLING on 15 Apr 1751 in Caswell County, North Carolina 3
- Died: By Jul 1790, Caswell County, North Carolina 3 7 8
Birth Notes:
Peden's transcription of St. John's Parish Register gives his date of birth as 2 Feb 1713, which, being a date falling between 1 Jan and 24 Mar and being a date prior to the calendar changes of 1752, is by genealogical convention double dated as 2 Feb 1713/14. Thus, under the Old Style dating system he was, per Peden, born on 2 Feb 1713 (24 Mar 1713 was the end of the year), while under the New Style dating system he would be considered to have been born in 1714 (beginning in 1752, 1 Jan replaced 25 Mar as the start of the new year).
Barnes, however, gives his date of birth as 2 Feb 1715, with no double dating, and the other sources seem to have taken that date from him. Even if Barnes is correct, the date should be double dated as 2 Feb 1715/16.
In the hopes of resolving which of these different accounts of his year of birth was correct, I obtained a copy of the filmed original parish records from the Maryland State Archives. Unfortunately, the bottom right corner of the page that was filmed, which is where Henry's birth appears as the last entry, had deteriorated by the time of filming, so that the year of birth is unreadable. It could be either 1713 or 1715. The dates of other records on the same page are not particularly helpful in deciding which date is correct, because they are not in sequence. However, since the immediately preceding records on the lower right hand corner of the page are the only records having a 1715 date, I can see how Barnes may have concluded the year of birth was probably 1715. On the other hand, the best guess of the Archives' staff member who viewed the film itself, was 1713. I'm afraid we will just have to live with the resulting uncertainty as to Henry's exact date of birth.
Death Notes:
His will was proven at the Jul 1790 court session.
Noted events in his life were:
1. Deed: 1769, Orange County, North Carolina. 9
Dated 28 Jan 1769; Registered Jan 1770; Book 2:600 Henry Fuller of Orange County to Thomas Mayjers of the same place, 185 acres on both sides of Stoney [Storys/Stories?]Creek, part of a 365 acre tract acquired from Benjamin Long by deed dated 5 Aug 1761. No reference to consideraton other than "for good causes me thereunto moving." Henry signed by his mark -- an H -- and the deed was witnessed by John Pryor, John Camp and James Banhook. It was proven at the January 1770 Court by the oath of John Pryor and was ordered to be registered. [The lack of consideration suggests this conveyance was a wedding gift from Henry.]
No subsequent deed by Thomas Majors disposing of this land has been found. However, his absence from the 1777 tax list (seemingly the only tax list from the 1770s that has survived) indicate he and Sarah had left the area by then. Also, by 1784 Henry is being taxed on 365 acres on Storeys Creek, which corresponds to his original 1761 purchase and seemingly includes the 185 acres he gifted to Thomas in 1769. I suspect that Thomas simply relinquished the land back to Henry when he and Sarah left the area, without there being any formal documentation.

Henry married Elizabeth on 27 Aug 1738 in Baltimore County, Maryland.1 3
Henry next married Catherine Anna SALLING on 15 Apr 1751 in Caswell County, North Carolina.3 (Catherine Anna SALLING was born about 1725 in Alsace-Lorraine, France 3 and died after 18 Oct 1790 10.)
Marriage Notes:
While the cited source indicates the marriage of Henry and Catherine took place in Caswell County, North Carolina, the marriage date predates the formation of that county and even predates the formation of Orange County, from which Caswell County was formed.
