Versailles Leader Obituary, January 16, 1903:

"William B Sharples an old and highly respected citizen residing near Barnett in this County died very suddenly last Monday. He had started from his house to see his son, some half mile distance and while on the way feeling ill stopped at neighbors James Campbell and died in a few minutes of heart failure. Deceased was in the 87th year of his age. He was born in North Carolina and came to Missouri in early life and lived upon the farm where he had lived for many years. He leaves his wife and ten children surviving him, six daughters and four sons, all of whom were present at the funeral. The remains were intered in Hopewell Cemetery last Wednesday. Rev. James Robinson of Clarksburg conducting the funeral service of sorrowing friends and relatives.

William B Sharples was a man of a fine mind a good neighbor a splendid citizen and a thorough christian gentleman. He was a fine type of the early citizen of Missouri and had done his part well in the development of this county. He was an earnest consecrated member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Peace be to his ashes."
