bullet  Research Notes:

See the Estate Administration Event for Mary Strong for the probate document that proves Martha was a daughter of John Strong. She was probably the female age 10-16 in the 1820 census, indicating a date of birth between 1804 and 1810, probably towards the end of that range.

Although one can't be sure, it appears as if the names for Samuel and Martha's children may have been taken from Martha's family. If so, that would indicate the first Mrs. John Strong may have been named Elizabeth. Recall that I have speculated the first Mrs. John Strong may have been the Betsy Strong who joined the Salem Baptist Church in Liberty, DeKalb County (then Smith), Tennessee in 1819. Betsy, of course, was a common nickname for Elizabeth. Note, however, that Samuel Little's mother was also named Elizabeth.

It is not clear where Elizabeth, Sarah Ann and Mary were born. One would expect it was in Smith County, Tennessee, which is where the John and Sarah Strong family resided until after 1836. Note also, that Samuel's father is reported to have died in Smith County in 1831. On the other hand, the appearance of Sarah Strong on the July 1833 membership list of the Mount Moriah Primitive Baptist Church in Mulberry, Lincoln County (see Events for Sarah Strong), raises the possibility of an earlier, though temporary, presence in Lincoln County. Might Samuel and Martha have married in Smith County and then moved back to Lincoln County after his father died? (Samuel's father appears in earlier records of Lincoln County.) Might Sarah have accompanied the perhaps pregnant Martha to be of assistance? Might Sarah have returned to Smith County and sometime after 1836 persuaded John to move there?

bullet  Death Notes:

Martha would have died on or after the date of birth of John Little and before Samuel married again.
