bullet  Research Notes:

While the Idaho Death Index shows a John Gray, born 16 Aug 1857, died 21 Aug 1928 in Ferdinand Co., Idaho, the date of birth is sufficiently troubling that one can't be sure this is the right John Gray, though he is thought to have died in Idaho as did his sister, Rebecca. Another John C. Gray, who looks more promising, was recently discovered by Lisa Ingram. He married Eliza Jane Niely in 1883 in Pottawattamie Co., IA, and was also enumerated in the 1920 census for Pottawattamie Co., so it may well be he never moved westward as did others in his family. The reason the Pottawattamie Co. John C. Gray might well be our John C. Gray is that his putative sister, Rebecca Gray, also married in Pottawattamie Co., IA, and also his age in the 1920 census (66) is a better fit with earlier census records than the age of the John Gray who died in ID. More research is needed on this family. 3 4
