bullet  Research Notes:

An Eli Scrivner presented a creditor's claim to the administrators of the Estate of John Scrivner, Dec'd, for an unpaid $1.00 loan. He was also a purchaser at the estate sale of Delpha Turner Scrivner.

Doris Scrivner Collier identified Eli in her book as a probable son of John, presumably because the 1830 census showed an otherwise unidentified male child in his household and because Eli appears to have been too old to be a son of one of John's younger brothers. I suspected Eli might instead be a son of Moses and Nancy (Henley) Scrivner, because (i) there is an undocumented IGI at www.familysearch.org that shows an Eli Scrivner, born about 1809 in Rowan County, North Carolina, and identifies his parents as Moses Scrivner and Nancy Henley, and (ii) my Rebecca Scrivner Strong may have named her son, Eli, who was born in Illinois, after a brother named Eli, just as she named another son, James Riley, after another of her brothers.

Subsequently discovered probate records for John Scrivner establish Eli was not John's son, and thus was presumably the son of Moses and Nancy. Some doubt remains because the 1820 census profile for Moses' household cannot be reconciled with the family profile that has emerged.

bullet  Death Notes:

He was still living at the time of the 1843 estate sale for Delpha Turner Scrivner. His presumed wife, Harriet, remarried in 1847.
