bullet  Birth Notes:

In the 1880 census, James W. Legg stated his mother was born in Maryland. John R. Legg and Samuel H. Legg, on the other hand, stated their mother was born in Kentucky. In the 1900 census, James changed his mother's state of birth to Kentucky.

bullet  Burial Notes:

There appear to be two tombstones for Elizabeth. An older one, in the same style as Samuel's, is to the right of Samuel's and says "Elizabeth wife of Samuel Legg, Died Sept 24 1843, age about 50 years." The second one is to the left of Samuel's and says in script, "Elizabeth Legg, Deceased this life Sept 24 AD 1843."

Why there are two tombstones is unknown, although I have a theory. Elizabeth's tombstone that is the same style as Samuel's has been restored. It had been broken in half and the bottom half must have been buried for many years since it shows little weathering. Perhaps many, many years ago, a Legg descendant decided to erect a new tombstone to replace the damaged one. With the restoration of the first tombstone, she ended up with two.

Elizabeth married Samuel LEGG.2 (Samuel LEGG was born on 27 Dec 1776 in Maryland,3 10 died on 29 Jun 1857 in Cole County, Missouri 3 and was buried in Legg-Robertson-Van Pool Cemetery, Cole County, Missouri 3.)

bullet  Marriage Notes:

Given that James W. Legg was born when Samuel Legg was age 46, it seems reasonable to speculate Samuel may have been previously married. However, no evidence of a prior marriage or prior children has been discovered.
