bullet  General Notes:

Per Hanson:
"Uncle Beatty said that Jacob II and Hannah were members of the United Brethren Church." 6

bullet  Research Notes:

Date of Birth:
Hannah's date of birth is calculated from the information contained in Margery Hanson's family history, to wit, that her grave marker at the Fleener Cemetery (aka Ritter Cemetery and Coon Cemetery), Jackson Township, Brown County, Indiana bears the inscription, "Hannah H. Fleener, died February 11, 1866, age 64 years, 11 months and 3 days." Per the date calculator in my genealogy software, the resulting date of birth is 8 Mar 1801. (In the Supplement to her book, Margery calculated the date as 9 Mar 1801.) Recall that her parents married about 14 Feb 1801. Could there have been an error in reading the grave marker? By a later letter of unknown date from Margery to Debra Wiley, Margery indicated the date was deciphered by her Uncle Beatty in 1924. By the time she saw it in the late 1960's, it was illegible. Thus, we have no way of knowing whether the dates were deciphered correctly. Note the 1850 census shows she was born about 1801. 2 6

bullet  Burial Notes:

Descendants have deciphered the names of the Fleeners and their related families and preserved them on a plaque embedded in cement in the area where the graves are located. Jacob Fleener and Hannah Lair Fleener appear as names 8 and 9.

bullet  Marriage Notes:

Per Bork:
Fleenex, Jacob and Hannah H. Lair. Surety, Elisha Franklin. Married 30 Oct 1823 by Obediah Strange.

Per Hanson:
Bond: Jacob Fleenor and Elisha Franklin were both sureties. The bond was dated 28 Oct 1823.
Return: "This certifieth the Lawful marriage of Jacob Fleener and Hannah H. Lair this 30th day of october 1823 by me Obadiah Strange."
Note: Copies of the Bond and Return were obtained from Margery via Debra Wiley. I think Hannah's name in both documents can be read as Lear, although in the Return it looks like Leair. 1 2 3 4
