bullet  Research Notes:

The fact that Jacob Bowers, son of David Bowers of Shelby County, Indiana, moved to Missouri and lived with and/or nearby an older Jacob Bowers was instrumental in determining that the older Jacob was a brother of David.

bullet  Noted events in his life were:

1. Census: 1860, Schuyler County, Missouri. 6

Dwelling 931, Family 919, Prairie Township
Jacob Bowers, age 51, male, farmer, $3000 real property, $600 personal property, born in Tenn
Jacob Bower, age 27, male, farmer, $400 real property, $200 personal property, born in Tenn
Mary A. Bower, age 23, female, born in Ia [presumably Indiana]
Frances Bower, age 4, female, born in Ia [presumably Indiana]
David Bower, age 2, male, born in Mo

[Compare the 1860 census Event for Mary A. (Wright) Bowers. While there are some minor inconsistencies between these two censuses, it appears that Mary A. Bowers and her first two children were enumerated twice: once with her husband Jacob in the 1860 household of his Uncle Jacob in Schuyler County, Missouri, and again without her husband in the 1860 census for Shelby County, Indiana, where she is listed between the family of Paris A. Talbert, father of Louisa Talbert who married David Bower's nephew, Jacob, and Jesse Talbert, Jr., father of Maria Talbert who probably married David Bower's nephew, Oliver. The Schuyler County census was taken on 16 Jul 1860 and the Shelby County census was taken on 29 Jun 1860. While she may have been in each place on those respective dates, I rather doubt it. I suspect Mary had returned to Indiana for the birth of their third child, who was about a month old at the time of the Shelby County enumeration, and that since she was only temporarily gone her husband provided the enumerator in Schuyler County with the names of his wife and children. It appears he may not even have known that their third child had been born. I believe the 1870 census confirms this double enumeration in 1860.]

2. Census: 1870, Marion County, Missouri. 7

Dwelling 292, Family 292, Warren Township
Bower, Jacob Jr., age 38, male, white, farmer, $400 real property, $250 personal property, born in Indiana
Bower, Mary A., age 35, female, white, keeping house, born in Indiana
Bower, Frances M., age 14, female, white, at home, born in Indiana
Bower, David H., age 13, male, white, at home, born in Missouri, attended school
Bower, Anna S., age 11, female, white, at home, born in Indiana, attended school
Bower, Charles M., age 5, male, white, at home, born in Missouri
Bower, Silas M., age 3, male, white, at home, born in Missouri

[Jacob Bower, Sr. was at Family 291. Though enumerated as Jr. and Sr., they were in fact nephew and uncle.]

3. Census: 1880, Marion County, Missouri. 4

Bower, Jacob, white, male, age 47, widowed, farmer, born in Indiana, father born in Tenn, mother born in Iowa
Bower, Henry D., white, male, age 22, son, single, works on farm, born in Missouri, father and mother born in Ind
Bower, Anna, white, female, age 20, daughter, single, keeping house, born in Missouri, father and mother born in Ind
