Armistead married someone Louisa LEFFEW, daughter of Unknown and Lavinia LEFFEW, on 12 Mar 1840 in Grainger County, Tennessee.¹ (Louisa LEFFEW was born about 1812 in Tennessee ³.)

  Marriage Notes:

Bond seems to have been dated 20 May 1837 and the names indexed as Armster Bunch and Fanny Leffers. The reason for the lapse of time between the date of the bond and the date of the marriage seems to be attributable to the fact that Armistead had married Priscilla Teague on 5 Jan 1833, who left him after about a year and took up with John Phipps. Priscilla and John Phipps then moved to Kentucky. It seems Armstead realized he needed a divorce before he could marry Louisa. Such was granted on 8(?) Jul 1839. (See Grainger Co. Circuit Court Civil Minutes, 1838-1839, another court case that was discovered by Danette Welch, my Leffew collaborator.) ²
