bullet  Research Notes:

Louisa is a proven daughter of Lavinia Leffew because she was idenitified as Lavinia's sole heir in litigation involving her estate.

Donna B. Miller, who provided me with copies of this Chancery Court case, is a descendant of Louisa as follows: Louisa Leffew Bunch > John Webster Bunch > Clyde Newton Bunch > Clyde Newton Bunch, Jr. > Donna. Those interested in the descendants of this line are encouraged to contact her at donna.b.miller@gmail.com. 3

Louisa married someone Armistead BUNCH on 12 Mar 1840 in Grainger County, Tennessee.1

bullet  Marriage Notes:

Bond seems to have been dated 20 May 1837 and the names indexed as Armster Bunch and Fanny Leffers. The reason for the lapse of time between the date of the bond and the date of the marriage seems to be attributable to the fact that Armistead had married Priscilla Teague on 5 Jan 1833, who left him after about a year and took up with John Phipps. Priscilla and John Phipps then moved to Kentucky. It seems Armstead realized he needed a divorce before he could marry Louisa. Such was granted on 8(?) Jul 1839. (See Grainger Co. Circuit Court Civil Minutes, 1838-1839, another court case that was discovered by Danette Welch, my Leffew collaborator.) 4

3 John W. Bunch, Administrator of the Estate of Lavinia Leffew, Dec'd vs. Armistead Bunch and Louisa Bunch, Chancery Court Records of Grainger County, Tenneseee (Initial Pleadings filed 26 Apr 1876). John W. Bunch was the grandson of Lavinia Leffew and the son of Armistead and Louisa (Leffew) Bunch. Louisa was the sole heir of Lavinia. The case was brought to force the sale of real property owned by Lavinia in order to pay claims against the Estate, the proceeds from the sale of her personal property having been insufficient to do so. Many thanks to Donna Miller for providing me with copies of the court proceedings in this case.
