bullet  Research Notes:

I believe Sarah's son, Moses, was a child born out-of-wedlock prior to her marriage to George Lambert, and that he kept the Lear name. Note that the Moses of the census records who is associated with George and Sarah Lambert was born about 1799, while George and Sarah married in 1806. [Moses, Sarah's brother, was too old to be the Moses of the census records. For example, said Moses witnessed the 1806 consent note by William Lear for the marriage of Jesse Lear.]

Also, consider the will of William Lear, dated 11 Nov 1807, which leaves Sarah's share of his estate to her son, Moses. Since Sarah had just recently married, William may have thought it best to make provision for her illegitimate son. He may have thought that while Sarah and any future children would be provided for by George, Moses' future was less certain. Note how unusual this bequest would be If Moses was a child by George -- it would exclude not only Sarah, but also all future children.

bullet  Noted events in her life were:

1. Census: 1810, Madison County, Kentucky. 4

Household of George Lambert: Presumed to be the female age 26-45.

[There are two male children under age 10 in the Lambert household. I believe one of them was Moses Lear, Sarah's son born out-of-wedlock. Note that in the 1820 census, there is only 1 male child over age 10; the other male child from the 1810 census would appear to be Moses Lear, who was by then the subject of a separate entry.]

2. Census: 1820, Madison County, Kentucky. 5

Household of George Lambert: Presumed to be the female age 26-45.

[The next entry is for Moses Lare, who is believed to be Sarah's son. His family profile was 0001-0, which puts his age between 18-26. This is consistent with the 1850 census, where his age was given as 51.]

3. Census: 1830, Morgan County, Indiana. 6

Household of George Lambert: Presumed to be the female age 40-50.

[The household of George Lambert is on the last line of the page. On the next page appears the household of Moses Lear: 000001-20001. Again, the indicated age 20-30 is consistent with the 1850 census.]

4. Census: 1840, Morgan County, Indiana. 7

Sarah Lambert: 0-00220001

[Two pages later is the entry for Moses Lear: 1000001-012001. Again, his indicated age 40-50 is consistent with the other census records.]

5. Census: 1850, Morgan County, Indiana. 3

Sarah married Unknown.

bullet  Marriage Notes:

Moses Lear appears to have been born out-of-wedlock several years prior to Sarah's marriage to George Lambert.

Sarah next married George LAMBERT about 7 Apr 1806 in Garrard County, Kentucky.1 (George LAMBERT was born about 1788 in Pendleton County, Virginia (now West Virginia) 8.)

bullet  Marriage Notes:

George Lambert and Sally Lear, Bond No. 407 and License dated 7 Apr 1806, Bond by Matthias Lambert, no return, no consent.

[Tutt Lambert interprets the bond as consent by Matthias for his son, George, then under age 21, to marry Sally Lear. Tutt has George's year of birth to be about 1788, which would mean he was about 18 years old when he married Sally, who was about 28. Tutt also refers to a note by John Lear, Sally's older brother, verifying Sally was of legal age to marry. While the 1810 census is consistent with this year of birth for George, the 1820 and 1830 censuses show him to be older, even older than Sally. Query.] 1 8
