Sarah SCRIVNER
(Abt 1817-Bef 1878) |
Sarah SCRIVNER 2
Another name for Sarah was Sarah SCRIBNER.2 Research Notes: The case for Sarah being a daughter of Moses Scrivner and Nancy Henley is based on the following circumstantial evidence: (1) the marriage record for Andrew Jackson McClellan states that his mother's name was Scribner, a common variation of Scrivner; (2) Sarah was born in Tennessee probably about 1817; (3) in the 1830 census for Smith County, Tennessee, there is an otherwise unidentified female age 10-15 in the household of Moses Scrivner; (4) Alfred and Sarah were enumerated in 1840 in Stewart County, Tennessee, to where Moses and Nancy and their son William are known to have moved from Smith County in the early 1830s; (5) Alfred and Sarah appear to have followed the Stewart County Scrivners to Franklin County, Illinois; and (6) Sarah and Alfred named a son Moses. Connecting Alfred to McClellans in either Smith County or Stewart County has not yet been successful. Birth Notes: The census records vary widely as to the year of her birth. I have chosen the age from the 1860 census, because it seems most consistent with her first child being born about 1834. Noted events in her life were: 1. Census: 1820, Smith County, Tennessee. 4 2. Census: 1830, Smith County, Tennessee. 5 3. Census: 1840, Stewart County, Tennessee. 6 4. Census: 1850, Franklin County, Illinois. 7 5. Census: 1860, Jefferson County, Illinois. 3 6. Census: 1870, Franklin County, Illinois. 8 Sarah married Alfred James McCLELLAN before 1834 in probably Tennessee.2 (Alfred James McCLELLAN was born on 25 Jan 1812 in Tennessee,2 died on 27 Nov 1880 in Webb's Prairie, Franklin County, Illinois 2 and was buried on 28 Nov 1880 in Liberty-Ridlen Cemetery, Northern Township, Franklin County, Illinois 2.) |
1 Family Records of Pat O'Sullivan Corona. Pat is a descendant of Afred James McClellan and Sarah Scrivner/Scribner through their daughter, Margaret Elizabeth (McClellan) Whitlow. Although persuasive circumstantial evidence exits that Sarah was a daughter of Moses Scrivner and Nancy Henley, Pat is not entirely convinced. She continues her research in the hope of finding conclusive evidence or to add to the circumstantial evidence so that a persuasive case becomes compelling.
