bullet  General Notes:

Per Doris Scrivner Collier's book: "John moved to IL prior to 1830. He served as a private in the Black Hawk War, Captain Bowyer's Co., Second Regiment, Mounted Volunteers; enlisted from Franklin Co., enrolled June 16, 1832." 2

bullet  Research Notes:

The discovery of probate records for John, which named his heirs, and information from Sheldon Jones about the Clark family, has resulted in the following corrections to the account of John's family in Doris Scrivner Collier's book: (1) Eli is now listed as a probable child of Moses and Nancy (Henley) Scrivner; (2) Harriet Scrivner, who married William Britton, is now listed as Harriet Clark, presumed widow of Eli; (3) Nancy Scrivner, who married Robert Richardson, is now listed as John's daughter; and (4) Samantha Scrivner is no longer listed as a daughter.

More information about the descendants of John Scrivner can be found in Doris Scrivner Collier's book.

John Scrivner, Probate Box 33

Oct 1842, Probate Book ABC
William Scrivner and Alexander Richardson were appointed Administrators of John Scrivener, Dec'd, who had died intestate.

April 1845, Probate Book ABC
Heirs of John Scrivner, Dec'd, were listed as follows: Nancy A. Richardson, William J., Fe--?, Moses H., Joel, Margaret S., and Reuben Scrivener. All received equal amounts.

John Scrivner, Probate Box 38

William Scrivner, Administrator and Guardian of Heirs, filed a report as guardian for Harriet, Joel, Margaret, Reuben and Moses. He reported that Harriet Scrivner married William Richardson and Margaret Scrivner married Calvin Allen.

[The guardianship report is included because it establishes Harriet Scrivner Richardson as John's daughter, even though her name doesn't appear in the list of heirs, unless her name or some variation thereof is the unreadable name.]
