bullet  Research Notes:

My Strong family research has resulted in a different family profile for Margaret Scrivner and Martin Strong than the account in Doris' book. Doris has told me that her information came from Strong Family of Virginia and Other Southern States, by James Robert Rolff. Since Doris did not personally research the Margaret Scrivner and Martin Strong family, she cannot vouch for my version of their family. I have shared my version with Jim Rolff and he has not disagreed with it.

bullet  Birth Notes:

Margaret's obituary suggests she was born in 1809. Census records, however, are more consistent with the recorded date.

bullet  Death Notes:

Obituary from Versailles Leader, July 30, 1897 (transcription by Marjorie Gracy):

"Death of Mrs. Strong

Mrs Margaret Strong wife of Uncle Martin Strong, died at her home in the eastern part of this County July 21, 1897 in the 88th year of age.

She was born in Tennessee married Martin Strong in 1828, nearly 70 years ago. Came to Missouri with her husband in the thirties settling first in Cole County and locating in this County in 1866.

She was the mother of 10 children, six of whom with her husband survive her. They are as follows: B F and F M of this county, Levi of Miller Co. Harvey of Arkansas, James of Texas and Mrs. John Hatcher of Viniti, Indian Territory.

Funeral services were conducted at Hopewill Church by Elder Edmond Wilkes of the Christian Church of which church deceased had been a member of more than forty years, after which her remains were laid at rest in the Cemetery at that place.

Mrs. Strong was a good woman a kind and obliging neighbor and a devout and faithful Christian. She was permitted to serve out the allotted time of man here and at a ripe old age, the vital forces having given gradually away she sank to rest and with an unfaltering faith awaits the resurrection morn."
