1850, District 2 (Lower): Franklin, John Sr.; 100 acres, Harmons, $150; 1 legal voter, 1 white male 21+; 1 horse/mare, $20; $170 total vaue. [Beginning in 1850, John, presumed son of William, moved to the Lower District. One is able to distinguish between the two Johns based on land holdings and their waterway and also on the number of children. It appears the tax collector had his own approach in this regard. Here he seems to be using Sr. as a means of identifying the long time resident from the newcomer. John Franklin Sr. was most certainly not the father of newcomer John and also was not the older of the two. On another matter, note that this John was not enumerated in the 1850 census for Wayne County.]
