Appears as John McNew (age 4, born in TN) in the household of his stepfather, John McNew.

2. Guardianship: Grainger County, Tennessee. ⁴ ⁵ A. John McNew was the initial Guardian of the minor heirs of William Bowers, Dec'd. He filed a report dated 1 Jan 1851, acknowledging receipt of his wards' share in a slave owned by the Estate of Andrew Bowers, Dec'd.

B. Subsequent Guardian Reports were filed by Isaac McNews, John's father. The first report was dated 30 Dec 1852, the second 17 Apr 1854, and a third dated 20 Oct 1857. This suggests that the John McNew family moved to AR about 1857, since they appear there in the 1860 census for Pulaski Co., AR. That would indicate Andrew Bowers died in Grainger Co. John Bowers was not enumerated with the family in 1860.
