bullet  Research Notes:

No further records have been found for William, although there is an 1850 enumeration for William Bowers in Johnson County, Arkansas (Dwelling 79, Family 81, Perry Township) that looks promising. He was born in Virginia about 1787, which is consistent with being the child of Andrew of Grayson County, Virginia who was added to the tax rolls in 1804. Whether this is the subject William would require more research. 5

bullet  Birth Notes:

William's year and place of birth presume it was he who turned 16 in 1804 and was shown as a taxable white male in the household of Andrew Bowers.

bullet  Noted events in his life were:

1. Tax List: 1813, Grayson County, Virginia. 6

1813 William Bowers(?), 3 white males above age 16, 1 horse.

[Note: It is difficult to read this name, so he may not be a Bowers at all, especially since there are no earlier entries. Perhaps he was a Bowen, since a William Bowen appears in the 1796 tax list. The 1813 William conceivably could be the presumed second son of Andrew who came of taxable age (16) in 1804. When Andrew left, George stayed behind with his wife. Perhaps, William and two other older sons remained in Grayson Co. for one more year before departing.]

2. Tax List: 1828, Grainger County, Tennessee. 4

Capt. Atkin's Company: William Bower, 121 acres, 1 white poll

[Note that William appears in the same Company as Andrew (Jr.). His name appears 8 lines after Andrew's, immediately following the entry for Henry Bower. Given the fact he is the only one besides Andrew to own land at this time, it's possible he was older. No deeds were found for William. No other records for him were found in Grainger Co.]
