Another name for Daniel was David.4 6
Research Notes:
Daniel is another child of the 1850 census whose parentage is in question because of his year of birth. See Research Notes for Thomas Majors.
Is Daniel just one person or do the various records suggest there was more than one person? Certainly, many different names are evident: Daniel, David, D. A., Absalum, Abb and D. Absolun. I believe there was just one person for the following reasons: (1) only one appears in the 1850 census (Absalum); and (2) later records for Danel or David (1860 census), D. A. (1870 census) and Abslom (1880 census) are for the same family, indicating all these name variations are for one individual.
It's more difficult to determine whether his given name was Daniel or David, but it is also less significant. While the 1860 census index recorded the name as Danel, in the actual census it can be read as Daniel or David (I favor Daniel). However, per Jacque Collins, the death certificate of his daughter, Pheobe Majors, listed the name of her father as David. But, how knowledgeable was the informant? On the other hand, his name appears as Daniel in the transcription of the record of his marriage to Sarah Branson. There is also a grave marker for Dan'l A. Majors in Liberty Hill Cemetery, Grainger Co., TN. Note that William, who appears to be his son, is buried in a nearby grave, as is his sister, Rachel Majors Coffman Mallicoat. I have used the name Daniel because that is the name favored by his descendants and the weight of the evidence. 6 7
Noted events in his life were:
1. Census: 1840, Grainger County, Tennessee. 9
Household of Thomas Majors: 20001-21001
[Daniel was presumably one of the male children under age 5.]
2. Census: 1850, Grainger County, Tennessee. 3
Household of Thomas Majors: Absalum Majors, 13, M, TN, Attended School
3. Census: 1860, Grainger County, Tennessee. 4
Household of Danel A. Majors: 1724/1724 Danel A. Majors, 23, M, Laborer, TN, Illiterate Sarah Majors, 18, F, TN Tinker (?), 6/12, M
Note: The FHL census index lists his name as Danel, but in the actual census it can be read as either Daniel or David. Likewise, I'm not sure about the spelling of the baby's name. It does look like it begins with a "T," but the name is susceptible to being read as "Larkin", who was a brother of Thomas Majors. Unfortunately, this child disappears in the 1870 census, so the name remains in question.

Marriage Notes:
Per Film Source: Abb Majors to E. Satterfield, Oct. 17, 1855, by Isaac Beale, J. P., Oct. 18, 1855
Per Sistler, "Early East Tennessee Marriages": Abb Majors to E. Sattefield, 18 Oct 1855
Per Morris & Shortridge, "1850-1859, Grainger Co., TN Marriage Records #6": D. Absolun Majors to Elizabeth Satterfield, 10-17-1855
Note: It is presumed this was a prior marriage of Daniel Absalom Majors for the same reasons it is believed all these name variations are for just one individual.
Daniel next married Sarah BRANSON on 12 May 1859 in Grainger County, Tennessee.6 (Sarah BRANSON was born about 1842 in Grainger County, Tennessee 4 6 and died after 1910 in Grainger County, Tennessee 8.)
Marriage Notes:
I have been informed that Byron Sistler, "Early East Tennessee Marriages," has the marriage date as 2 May 1859.
