Per Tina, sometime after the 1850 census William and family moved to Arkansas. After the deaths of William, his wife and his mother-in-law, Malinda brought the family back to Grainger and Claiborne Counties, Tennessee.

Research Notes:
That William Leffew was a son of Joseph Leffew can be inferred from the 11 Dec 1841 deed by the heirs of Joseph Leffew, Dec'd to William Leffew. See Events for Phebe Leffew. Proof, however, was discovered by Danette Welch, my Leffew research colleague. She found a court case at page 62 of the 1846-56 Court Minutes for Grainger County, Tennessee, which was initiated on 1 May 1847 by Reese Williams, Administrator of the Estate of Joseph Leffew, Dec'd. The defendant was William Leffew, who is identified as an "heir at large."
