Fanny is identified in Lavina's will as her sister and appears in the tax lists as Frances or Fanny. While it's possible she was a widowed sister-in-law, since Fanny's son is identified as Nathan Melich Lear, I have gone with the literal words of Lavina's will. ^{1 2}
