Thomas MAJORS (Jr) 1 2
- Born: 12 Mar 1764, Halifax County, Virginia 3
- Marriage: Rebecca
- Died: Apr 1857, Madison County, Kentucky 3
Research Notes:
It is not at all certain that Thomas Majors, born 1764 in Halifax County, Virginia, was the son of Thomas Majors of Rhea County, Tennessee. That relationship is merely suggested, but certainly not proven, by being consistent with the following facts: (1) Thomas of Rhea County, Tennessee identified himself in his will as Thomas Majors Sr., implying there must have been a son named Thomas; (2) Thomas' (Sr.) sister, Esther, married William Organ and there is evidence they lived in Halifax County at least by the early 1780s, possibly as early as 1762 since tax records for the Pipe Creek Hundred in St. Thomas' Parish in Baltimore Co., MD show that he had left without paying his taxes, which raises the possibility Thomas and Jemima may have also lived there as early as 1764; (3) Thomas (Jr.) enlisted for service in the Revolutionary War in Wilkes County, North Carolina in 1780, and while there is no proof Thomas (Sr.) ever lived there, the possibility he did so is at least consistent with the fact he had left Caswell County, North Carolina by 1777 and didn't appear again in any records until perhaps 1787 in Washington County, Tennessee (at that time part of North Carolina) or for sure in 1792 in Washington County, Virginia; and (4) after his Revolutionary War service, Thomas (Jr.) lived in Hawkins County, Tennessee before he moved to Madison County, Kentucky (he appears in the 1830 census for Hawkins County), which at least puts him in the same general vicinity where Thomas (Sr.) lived. It is also interesting to note that Thomas' (Jr.) son, Isham Majors, ultimately settled in Cass County, Missouri, as did Thomas' (Sr.) son Absalom
It seems proof of this relationship will most likely come from DNA testing. However, to date no direct male descendants of Thomas (Jr.) have been found who are willing to participate in the Majors DNA Project, of which I am a co-administrator. If the reader is such a descendant or knows of one and would like to join or sponsor someone in our DNA project, please contact me.
