bullet  Research Notes:

Census records show there are two other unidentified children: a male born about 1822 and a female born about 1826.

As is the case with all Hamilton lines collateral to mine, my research on this line has been limited to the records of Wayne Co., KY. Those interested in information about this family after they moved to Macon Co., MO and/or information on later generations should contact Pat Franks. 6

8. Deposition: 1839, Wayne County, Kentucky. 3 4

Deposition given in connection with the application of Hannah Hamilton for a pension on account of the service of her husband, Charles Hamilton, in the Revolutionary War. While this deposition has been summarized by Bork, the following is my transcription for a copy of the original, with any significant differences from Bork noted in brackets:

"The deposition of Joseph H. Hamilton of Wayne County Ky taken at Mrs. Sally Leares to be used as evidence in favour of Mrs. Hannah Hamilton on application for a pension under the acto of Congress passed July the 4th 1836. Deponent being forty years old Deposeth and Saith that he is the Son of Charles Hamilton and Hannah Hamilton whose name was Hannah Henry before marriage. He further Saith his father the aforsaid Charles Hamilton died on the twenty fourth day of November Eighteen hundred and Eighteen and that his Mother the aforesaid Hannah Hamilton has remained a widow ever since to the present period He further Saith that he always understood from his Father and other persons that he the aforesaid Charles Hamilton had served as an orderly Sergent and Soldier in the revolution. He further Saith his oldest Sister Sarah Lear is now Sixty one years old that his Brother William Hamilton if living would be now Sixty years old; his Brother John is now fifty Eight years old [68 per Bork], his Sister Hannah Whitacker is now fifty ___ [55 per Bork] years old. And the above named Brothers and Sisters are the Children of the aforesaid Charles Hamilton and Hannah Hamilton. And further Saith not. /s/ Joseph H. Hamilton

[It is unclear why the focus of the deposition was on identifying children of Charles and Hannah. It is even more unclear why Joseph identified only some of the children. Except for himself, the four other children identified were the oldest children. Also, how was this information relevant to the pension application?]
