Joshua WHITAKER ¹

  Research Notes:

I have not been able to locate a descendant of Joshua and Hannah (Hamilton) Whitaker who can help identify their other children. While I have seen two other children identified at Ancestry.com, I have not been able to determine the source of this information. For those interested, do a search for Joshua Whitaker and spouse Hannah Hamilton and two items will appear: one contains information on James Whitaker, born about 1820 and died before 1830, married to Rachael Rude; the other contains information about Dorethy Whitaker, born 6 Jun 1824 and died 7 Apr 1895, married to Andrew Jackson Taylor.

I look forward to making contact with a direct descendant in order to learn more about the children of this family.

Joshua married Hannah HAMILTON, daughter of Charles HAMILTON and Hannah HENRY, on 2 Aug 1810 in Wayne County, Kentucky.¹ (Hannah HAMILTON was born on 3 May 1785 in Lincoln County, North Carolina,³ died on 10 Aug 1865 in Morgan County, Indiana ³ and was buried in East Hill Cemetery, Morgan County, Indiana ³.)

"Whitaker, Joshua and Hannah Hambleton. Surety, Charles Hambleton. Bond dated 26 July, married 2 Aug 1810 by Elliot Jones."

[In a footnote to the above marriage record, Bork notes that the Whitaker family, along with the Wheeler and Hoover families, were in Macoupin Co., IL around 1850's. As to Joshua and Hannah (Hamilton) Whitaker, that statement is incorrect.] ¹
