bullet  Death Notes:

Death Certificate:

I believe the information provided by Mrs. Ernie Nell for Sarah Bowlin's Certificate of Death is incorrect in the following respects:
1. Her date of birth is given as 1 Dec 1848, while other records show 30 Nov 1848.
2. Morgan Co., MO is listed as her birthplace, yet there is no evidence her parents ever lived in Morgan Co. Going by deed records, it would seem the family lived in Cole Co., MO at the time of her birth.
2. Eli Strong was the name given for her father, but he was a brother.

Obituary from The Sedalia Democrat:

"Mrs. Sarah Bowlin
Mrs. Sarah Bowlin, aged 86 years, died Sunday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. E. R. Nell, at Ionia.
Mrs. Bowlin had long been a resident of that place. She was born in Morgan County [probably Cole County], November 30, 1848 and soon after her marriage to Allen Bowlin on February 27, 1871, went to Ionia where she had resided since. Mr. Bowlin died four years ago.
She was the mother of five children, one dying in infancy. Those surviving are Charles Bowlin, Olympia, Wash., James Bowlin, Mrs. Minnie Ragar and Mrs. Mollie Nell, of Ionia. A sister, Mrs. Margaret Kingery, of Eldon, nine grand-children and nine great-grandchildren also survive her.
When a young woman she united with the Presbyterian church, but in later years belonged to the Methodist church at Ionia, where the funeral will be held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. The Rev. C. W. Saye will officiate and interment will be in Christian cemetery.
Pallbearers will be G. D. Brown, L. T. Pittman, C. D. Ferguson, J. T. Woods, R. A. Willis and H. D. Howe."

[This might be Sarah, Eli's sister, but that would mean Sarah, Eli's daughter age 3, was omitted from the census. See Events for Eli for more discussion of his 1870 household. Given that Eli was identified as Sarah's father in her death certificate, I suspect she may have been living with Eli's family in 1870; otherwise, there is no other record of her in the 1870 census.]
