  Birth Notes:

There is a conflict between her tombstone and various census records as to her year of birth. While I would normally accept the tombstone, which shows the date of her birth as 5 Sep 1817, as the best evidence in this regard, the consistency of census records, some of which were likely based on information provided directly by Mary, and the order of children per her father's will, gives me pause. Her date of birth per Merrills' website was Sep 1819, which was apparently taken from the 1900 census, in which Mary was enumerated in the household of her daughter, Emma, and her daughter's husband, William Gardner, in Washington Township, Buchannan County, Missouri. Pending additional data, I have chosen to go with the date of 5 Sep 1819.
